'Chunkers' really get around!

9:30 PM - Fat Frogs Chesapeake Loop
All started out well from Great Bridge high school.  Solid 20mph pace down Hanbury for a two man ride. Passed Fat Frogs and we are now on the loop.

We cruise down chatting and fighting a little wind, but the weather is perfect, so the two man assault on Chesapeake continues!!!  During our conversation, I am informed that Chunk gets around.  My buddy Steve met Chuck at the Fat Frogs morning ride this past week.  Seems he enjoyed the company for a bit, but he eventually was broken not only by the A+ but also A group. To his recollection, Chuck held on to the A group.  -  back to the ride...

We continue on and everything is going according to plan until Old Carolina... I lose a little power and let the pace slip a bit.  No biggie, we enjoy the break and then I am able to gather myself and get back up to speed.  We continue on....

As we turn off of Long Ridge onto Land of promise...  I hear a 'bang' and see Steve adjust quickly... we quickly discuss the noise unsure of what just happened, but I see his rear wheel go out of true in the course of 10 seconds.  Blown spoke.

I am horrible about carrying tools.   Ben from Fat Frogs has saved me in the past.  but now it is 10:30pm... no calls for help.  Steve has a spoke wrench, but I offer to go get the car to prevent too much damage.

I continue on....

I turn right onto Centerville and head to Etheridge Manor.  Just as I am about to turn... 'bam' and I see a white rock shoot ahead... seriously???  Blew out my front tire 5 miles or so from the car.  Steve has a tube and air - 4 mile behind me.

FAAACK!

I call him on the cell and let him know I might be a while... he ends up truing the wheel as best he can in the circumstances and limps his bike to catch me.  I was walking the entire time, so as he gets there we are two miles from the car... so instead of repairing my bike, he continues on to get the civic.

And here I sat....

This will not happen again.  New tail bag with emergency kit has been ordered.
My 150 lumin MiNewt will be replaced with 2800 lumins.  I will see the rock next time.  And if I cannot avoid it, i will have a kit on the bike to repair it.
